From Humble Beginnings to Remarkable Change

Date posted: November 10, 2023

As we continue to celebrate our new IRS designation a tax-exempt charitable organization, we are looking back on how it all began. In 2009, Reverend Nelly and her husband took two girls into their home, and enrolled them into school. This selfless act soon blossomed into the WADADA Project, supporting more than 60 girls and boys. Nearly 15 years have passed, and the WADADA Project is now officially Hope for the Hopeless, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt ministry.

Some of you may know, the WADADA Project was originally supported by Resource Ministry Partners. So why the change? With the passing of Dominic Costanzo, one of RMP’s founders, I asked myself, “What would happen if I suddenly went home to be with the Lord?” I began to pray for a clear path to ensure the children in the WADADA Project, and hopefully many more in the future, would be protected.

Not long after, without knowing my concerns, a major donor contacted me with the idea of creating a standalone ministry to support the WADADA Program. As an independent ministry, Hope for the Hopeless features a board that focusses on nothing but the needs of the children. When I depart this world, the ministry should not miss a beat and continue on with our important mission.

While the sole purpose of the creation of Hope for the Hopeless was to sustain a long-term future for the WADADA Program, there are other benefits. Over the years, RMP’s mission to support the people in Kenya hasn’t changed, but two clear paths emerged: strengthening the growing presence of Christianity through church development and pastor encouragement, and rescuing desperate children from hunger, early marriage and forced labor. By creating a separate ministry, Hope for the Hopeless will be able to concentrate our resources, efforts and attention solely on helping these at-risk children. Additionally, it will help us build a distinct and recognizable brand, which we hope will attract additional donors to increase our impact in the region.

This decision was not taken with any ill intentions or conflicts within RMP. Rather, we believe it will lead to a more impactful future for both of our organizations and those we serve.

We are grateful to each and every one of you who have supported us along this journey. Your unwavering belief in our mission has been instrumental in achieving this milestone. Your donations, time, and advocacy have all played a crucial role, and we look forward to your continued involvement as we embark on this new chapter.

For those who are new to our site, we encourage you to explore the remarkable impact that Hope for the Hopeless has already had in this region, and consider joining us in making a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable girls and boys.
