Giving Hope to 22 Students!

Date posted: August 14, 2024

We are excited to announce that Hope for the Hopeless is now sponsoring 22 new girls and boys, allowing them to continue their dream of education.

Although in the United States a public education is provided by the Government through 12th grade, in Keyna, High School is not a guarantee. Students must receive top marks on their eighth-grade exam, and be able to afford their desk and learning resources. These 22 students were unable to meet these requirements, likely sentencing the girls to be sold for marriage and boys to a lifetime of being a herder or warrior.

Thankfully, the Headmaster of a public school in Torosei reached out to Rev. Nelly with a proposal. The Headmaster told Rev. Nelly that if she could send $4,200 to cover the cost of the desks and resources, they would take all 22 girls and boys into their school. This was an incredible offer as the cost of High School can be as much as $750 for one term for one child.

Through this collaboration, and generous donors like you, these 22 young people are given the chance at a better future.

Education is key to being a successful adult, and one of the fundamental goals of Hope for the Hopeless. We aim to support boys and girls so that they mature into a highly educated adults who can make good decisions based on what they have learned over the years, instead of solely tribal tradition. We’ve been amazed at the incredible leaders the WADADA House has nurtured over the years, and are excited to see the incredible futures they have as community leaders, successful business owners, spouses and parents.

We hope you consider making a donation today to help us support more children have a chance at a better life, and invite you to come back later this week to learn more about the education system in Kenya.
