Reverend Nelly and Student Leader Hanna undergo Trauma Training

Trauma, Healing, and Hope

Date posted: April 10, 2025

Rev. Nelly and HannahAt WADADA Children’s House, every story is one of resilience, hope and transformation. While each child we welcome carries the weight of past trauma, each also carries the potential for healing and a new beginning. Recently, Reverend Nelly and WADADA Student Leader Hannah—took a significant step forward in this mission by completing an Advanced Trauma Training course. This training, through the Kutoa Project, has equipped them the knowledge and skills to support children and women who have experienced deep wounds of trauma.

For Hannah, the journey is especially personal. Having been forced into marriage three times, she understands firsthand the pain, fear, and loss of freedom that so many young girls endure. But Hannah is no longer a victim—she is a survivor, a fighter, and now, with her training, an advocate, ready to support the countless girls who are still trapped in a reality she once knew too well.

Reverend Nelly, the heart and leader of the WADADA Children’s House, has spent years witnessing the devastating effects of trauma in the children she cares for. She has seen the silent wounds of forced marriage, female genital mutilation, abuse, and neglect. Now, with a deeper understanding of trauma and the ways to navigate its complexities, she is even more prepared to guide these young souls toward healing and hope.

“Thank you for enabling us to attain knowledge on the Advanced Trauma to help many girls and women who have gone through female genital mutilation and forced child marriage,” says Reverend Nelly. “Many girls and women are like living hostages because they have no freedom.”

This training is not just about education; it is about empowerment. It is about equipping women like Hannah and Reverend Nelly to not only overcome their own trauma, but to give them the tools to recognize trauma, address it with compassion, and walk alongside those who are still struggling.

As we move forward, please join us in our pursuit to continue this incredible work – whether by reading more about our mission, sharing this story, or partnering with us in support. Every prayer, every donation, every act of kindness helps this mission of healing.
